## Our Story
Tocanan was founded in 2019 in Hong Kong with a clear thesis: **the world is moving toward AI-mediated discovery, and brands that don’t optimize for that layer will become invisible.**
We started as a social media listening and consumer intelligence company, helping brands across Asia-Pacific extract actionable insights from the noise of online conversation. Our roots go deep — our founder Eden Lau previously co-founded **Brandtology**, one of the pioneering social listening companies in the region.
When AI-powered search engines began reshaping how consumers discover brands, we saw the shift early. In 2024, we expanded into **Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)** — the discipline of monitoring, measuring, and improving how brands appear in AI-generated answers from platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, and Kimi.

## About Eden Lau — Founder & CEO
Eden Lau is a marketing and data strategy veteran with over 30 years of experience. He co-founded **Brandtology** in 2009, one of Asia’s pioneering social listening companies, before founding Tocanan in 2019.
Eden spotted the GEO opportunity before it had a name — recognizing that as AI search engines replaced traditional search for more and more queries, brands would need a fundamentally new approach to visibility. He built Tocanan to be that solution.
Eden is natively bilingual in English and Chinese, giving Tocanan authentic cross-cultural capability across Western and Chinese AI platforms. He has worked with enterprise clients across insurance, government, retail, and technology sectors in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
